...I'm mentally preparing to leave this beautiful country with some nostalgia
...I have my last churros con chocolate and again inspire surprise with the waitress at ordering both coffee and hot chocolate with my churros
...I visit the amazing cathedral and its innumerable chapels - no wonder it's classed as world heritage. It's simply astounding and photos can't do it justice.
...I plan my last day: a visit to a Moorish fortress Calatañazor
...the fortress turns out to be in ruins so I head on to Madrid. I'm starting to miss Spain already
...in Madrid I'm equally impressed by crazy traffic as by the thoughtfulness of the lawmaker: there is a special lane for bicycles shared with cars, but with a speed limit of 30 km/h!
...I see two obviously brave but impossible scared elderly ladies, visibly tourists, probably German or Dutch, courageously squeezing their way through traffic on Gran Via, ferociously trying to stay alive and sane amidst all the fighting, revving and honking
...I try to park the car in central Madrid, which proves nigh impossible. Finally after passing for the umpteenth time next to the same parking garage displaying FULL, a green light comes on. There's a space! I pull in but it's so tight even the most fanatical Belgian space-saving builders would have truly been proud. I manage to park it with the assistance of the cashier.
...I walk around the center a little regretting I didn't find anything for the night in Madrid. For some reason prices for this weekend had been impossible for weeks now, the cheapest s***hole starting from €120 a night. That included neighboring suburbs such as Alcalá de Henares.. that's why I'm staying 50 km away in Guadalajara...
...I hit a swimming pool. There is one very nice in the center. It's on the third floor with a nice view and there's even a division into fast, medium and slow lanes. I love it! You have to buy a padlock or own one to lock your locker though. I decide on neither and leave my stuff unlocked. Somehow nobody steals it.
...I return to Guadalajara, check into my modest accommodation (but this trip's cheapest at €35!) and go out to eat my last tapas and drink my last Cruzcampo!
...I go to bed setting 4 alarms just in case!
