Travel trivia: what's a 20 minute walk in Quito? At least 45 minutes
Liz and Celeste arrived late Wednesday. We quicly got together for a welcome drink, then went to bed. We slept in before we started exploring the city. Our target: Old Town. We were about 2 km and 20min away (turned out to be 2 miles and 45min, but we're on vacation so who cares).
We took it easy today. We passed by the Basilica but where too hungry to go in. Kept walking to down town where we ultimately found Calle la Ronda and had a great local lunch.
With full bellies we took on the rest of old town, but I don't want to hide the fact that we were pretty wiped. Quito is at 9,350ft (2,800m) and it takes a day to get used to that. We were brave, walked it all the way back to the hotel, and then we all crashed for a one hour nap. We had a drink before dinner, enjoyed local sushi, and setup the day for tomorrow and were back in bed by 9.
A short blog, because we just didn't do that much today. For tomorrow we hired a driver to go to the center of the earth and a visit to the Otovalo Market. I trust there's more to talk about then.
