Milan, at first sight was disappointing, but when you scratch the surface it is an amazing & beautiful place.
We were fortunate to stay at the Sheraton four Points at a very discounted rate. Our first day was waisted on trying to book our train tickets for Paris. First we discovered a rail strike that put us back one day, and then Bastille day celebrations in France cut us short a day in Paris.
We then discovered that the Italian rail system would not accept our Eurail pass and was fully booked on their one train to Paris, impossible, we were told! Great what do we do now?
Well it turns out that there is another railway company that we can book with, but it took us almost the whole day to find the office and book the tickets, "not happy Jan!"
So with all the tickets arrange to Paris and the return to Florence all we needed to do was to book our accommodation in Paris. What a nightmare when you are on a budget! As I said Bastille Day is the 14th July so most budget accommodation is fully booked, it cost us quite a bit more than we would normally pay for our accommodation, we just hope it is up to scratch!
On Sunday we decided to catch the red hop-on-hop-off bus and see the city. What a great experience it was. We had not realized how much history there was or just how majestic the buildings and town really are.
The Duomo Di Milan is the Roman Catholic church and is MAGNIFICENT! We stood and marveled at the exterior where many biblical scenes were carved in marble. The interior was just as amazing with huge marble columns and plenty of room. They even had a couple of glass crypts with past cardinals on display, yeh a bit morbid!
The rest of the town was just as amazing. It is really a shoppers haven, with all of the major fashion outlets here, Gucci, Armani, Swarovski and many more, in the most upmarket place with these fashion houses there it was, McDonalds in all it's glory! Fortunately we didn't get to eat Maccas here!
In all we have really enjoyed Milan, it is one of those places that surprises you at every turn.
