I was in Vietnam on the 24th of Feb - just catching up on all the blogs I have not completed... Sorry ;)
Was starting to get really bored of bus rides and was off to Halong Bay which I had heard only good things about. Got on the boat and had a three course lunch and then went canoing with Mathieu. Splashed a russian on our trip who was not happy but we both had a good laugh about it!!! Then when we got back jumped in off the top of the boat and had a few drinks as where able to shout and scream as loud as we liked.
Next day we had a short drive to the Capital of Vietnam. It was the craziest place I have ever set foot in. The traffic was incredible and out of the population of 3million 80% have motorbikes so you can slightly imagine what it is like!! We went to a Prisoner of War Camp i which John Mccain had been put in during the Vietnam War. Later that evening we went to a traditional water puppet show which was dreadful, we were all wishing it to finish as quickly as possible.
Next morning had my first real taste of an English Breakfast at a place called Koto's which basically takes under-privelidged children and makes them into restraunteers. Then on to the tomb of Ho Chi Minh, who had made Vietnam a free country. Was weird as he had been frozen in a box so we could see his body. We went back to KOTO's for dinner and had vietnemese specialty Bangers and Mash.... was so good.
The next day had a healthy luch of KFC and then just walked around the old part of the city loosing ourselves and where we were alot. We were on another overnight train to Hue, i was in a cbin with the girls and could not keep the smile off my face..!
We went out all day on the back of motorbikes seeing all of the sights of the old historical town. Our tour guide named TAM sounded like Frank Spencer, he had a british accent which was amazing. We were going down tracks that you would not normally go down as a tourist. We had lunch at a monastry it was all vegetarian food that was surprisingly good.....
More of Sunny Vietnam to come....
