Well...This is what I´m talking about...
Booked myself into a Rio Penthouse! ha ha...10 days of sheer luxury for Casey boy!
Wrong! Stayed at Rio backpackers the first night, then arrived like a child on Christmas morning outside the appt....and waited...and waited! A few choice words in my finest Royal County Accent and the dude gave me an extra night for free following his double booking!
The view was magnificent...over looking Copacabana beach! I cant show pictures as my Mum would go blind with all that naked flesh!!
Beach time...Copacabana and Ipanema are exactly as one would expect...Boobs and Bums everywhere! I was moved on several times for hanging my belly out in a beauty spot. But hey... look at the photos!
Rio is expensive, but I was here to cane my credit card! A week turned into 3...haha! I want to read this when I have to pay all the $$$ back.
Anyway...I did the lot!
Flamengo V Santos in the Maracana...Awesome! The Favelas was an unforgetable experience, on the back off motorbikes into these infamous gang run slums (dudes were carrying heavier munnitions than our troops in Iraq! Our Guide Helio was great though, considering we spent all night in this No'Go area getting wasted! Met Catherine, Grace, Pauline, Neil And Jan...and what a night we had!!! Got a cracking photo up here. (not allowed to take photos of gang members for obvious reasons...) and when there is an issue, the police send the army in as the gangs are better armed. A policeman was shot in a helicopter over the favelas whilst we were there!!! They have their own law.
Caipirinhas are the local tipple...and they are lush...add vodka and boom! Many a day and night spent sipping these little treats. Endless people watching and sun bathing. I ate well here too...the sushi is fresh and delicious, Arab restuarants served amazing food including goat.
On with the sight seeing, upto Corcovado...Christ Redentor is every bit as spectacular as the pictures. You reach it via a cog train. I met Frank from the Amazon tour up there. Catherine & I decided to walk down...3 hrs later through some dodgy areas we arrived at the start. We then headed off to bohemian Santa Theresa for some Portuguese cuisine.
Handgliding followed...Good fun, but not quite the rush I hoped for! The veiws made up for the lack of adrenalin. Although we did land 2 miles further down the beach due to high winds...
Samba everywhere...Lapa is the place for street parties and dancing.
Beach volleyball and football is amazing to watch! Capoeria even more so (see video)
Sugar loaf Mountain Aka Pao de Acucar is reached by two cable cars and again serves up some spectacular veiws over Rio!
Rio De Janeiro (January River) is quite the party city...I could not image this place in Feb during carnival. They are rehersing already with Samba schools....two foot shuffle king showed them a move or two!
The Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup was on Copacabana beach. I didn´t recognise anyone, but hey...lets not talk about football eh!
Had to have a cheeky Caipirinha in the plush Hotel Copacabana Palace...cheap...not! ate noodles for two days after!
A few more bronzy days on the beach sucking Agua do Coco, met with Eve from Bolivia. We all headed into town and I spent my last night in Rio toking on a peach water pipe...Lovely!!
Iguazu Falls here I come.....
