We hadn't got far from Broome when we started to smell a burning smell. The gas was off so we weren't on fire, but we both had puzzled looks on our faces. The next thing the speedo had a bit of an epileptic fit for a few seconds and then the needle rested on 0kmphr. This was odd since I was still doing 100. Oh no, Audrey was sick.
This meant we had an unplanned stop in Derby for the night and in the morning we got her checked out. Diagnosis: the electric plug had got flooded. The guy also fixed our power steering: we actually thought we didn't have power steering, but we do. Needless to say the cable was shredded to bits.
Just outside Derby we visited the Prison Tree. An impressive Boab tree with a 14m hollow diameter. This was used as a temporary prison as the whites were moving the aboriginal across the country. The aboriginals were rounded up, men, women and children and a lot were used to dive for pearls. Pregnant women were preferred as it was thought they would have more Oxygen. They dived to depths of 18m. Pretty crazy.
Due to the torrential rain our only road to Darwin was flooded, which meant a bit of a wait and then an escorted convoy through gravel tracks under water. Pretty exciting.Although a 4x4 would have made things a bit easier.
Yesterday we took a flight over the Bungle Bungles, a huge area of Beehive dome shaped rock formations. The flight was in a little 5 seater and lasted 50mins. It was pretty amazing to see these formations from the air. Their formation is a little bit of a mystery.
Today we've just arrived in Kununura. We don't have any big plans but the agricultural show is own so we're gonna check that out and see how the farmings done up in these parts.
