Day15
First thing this morning we went to reception to let them know someone was in our spot and they gave us another one which was a bit bigger. Mum decided to do a bit of laundry before we headed out to the canyon and we walked down to Ruby’s Inn lodge to book a cowboy dinner show for the evening. Mum also called ahead and reserved us spaces for the next morning to do a horse ride through the canyon. When we came out of the Inn there was a huge rain storm with thunder and lightning. We didn’t have any rain coats with us, so decided it wasn’t such a good idea to go hiking through the canyon until it had passed. We waited a little while at the Inn, and looked around the gift shops, but then we realised we had left the hatches open in the RV! We ran all the way back, to find very wet beds and floors, oops.
Once the rain had passed, we caught the shuttle into the canyon, it was beautiful, even better in our opinion than the Grand Canyon, you could really feel part of it and walk down into it with great trails, and fantastic views. We decided to do a trail starting at Sunrise Point and ending at Sunset Point called the Queens Garden Trail and the Navajo Loop. As some mad coincidence would have it, we bumped into David and Alison, the guys we had dinner with at the Grand Canyon, how mad is that! We had a bit of a chat and then wished them a safe journey home. The trails were breathtaking, and we took tons of pictures. At the bottom of The Queen’s Garden Trail lots of people had built mini Hoodoos so I decided that I would like to build one too. As soon as I started building one it started to rain a little so we decided that it was probably best to keep walking as we didn’t want to get caught out in a flash flood. When we finished our hike we left on the shuttle back and got ready to go out for the show. Just as we were leaving, there was a shuttle / train that came round the site picking everyone up for the show, so we got door to door service. When we arrived we were shown to our table which we shared with a French family. The two children were a bit younger than me and the youngest boy decided that he was going to crawl around under the table while we waited for our dinner. We had to pick our food and I decided to have a 14oz rib-eye steak, they laughed when I went to get it from the buffet, but I ate every bit of it and it was great. Mum ordered a bottle of wine for herself as she said it would be cheaper than buying it by the glass. There were peanuts on the table and I was upset that I couldn’t try them. The show was good with a lasso show and gun slinging tricks at the beginning before the band who were called ‘The Bar G Wranglers’. At the end of the evening I had my picture taken with the band and they gave me a signed photo too. We decided to walk back afterwards and get a bit more exercise as it was a lovely evening. Luckily, our beds were dried out by then.
