Finally had some time tonight to catch up on your latest adventures. I really enjoy reading them. The kids would love to see some more pictures when you have a chance. The other day Lindsay came to me and asked if your were is Peru because there was program on the children's channel she watches about Peru. We enjoyed watching it together... after it was over she said, "I miss Auntie Maya and Braden - when will they be home?!"
We are all well now after a nasty month of illness. Happy it is March and getting closer to spring!
Love to you both,
Michelle

Isn't anyone posting any more?? Anyway, Braden and Maya here is my blog. I am off to Darfur, Sudan again so we can blog to blog!!!! The only thing is because of the nasty government there please don't mention my name or anything personal but it would be great to share stories across the ocean!!!!!! Not as fancy as yours but with the need to be anonymous I will try my best. I won't begin posting until I am there.

Hi Braden and Maya, I am very proud of you for volunteering to help the people who suffered because of the earthquake. Reading your comments about the "Lonely Planet" book was interesting. I am always relieved to get messages from you. But I must confess, reading about all of the dangers you face still scares me. Please continue to take care!! Braden, thanks for phoning Auntie on her birthday, you made her very happy.
Lots of love to both of you, Mom

Hi Maya and Braden, There is a very interesting physician working for Equal access to health globally. We first heard of him in Haiti when we were there but he is a true advocate for equal access to health for the poor. He has written a number of books, a Harvard graduate and alternative thinker. His now works in Africa and Peru!!!! Perhaps you can see his hospital there. His organization is Partners for Health. You will be inspired. He has authored a number of books that you might be interested in. I sent along a YouTube site and some other quick sites just to show you who he is plus the website of Partners in Health in Peru. Enjoy he is a great hope for the worlds poorest.

Interesting blog about the health care system... since I work in the health care system here in Alberta and in many parts of Africa and since I was also a patient in the largest private hospital in Kenya I can relate to your story. So glad to hear Braden, you are feeling better. Did you bring some broad spectrum antibiotics along to nip those nasty little intestinal bugs etc., that tend interrupt travel at the most inconvenient times. You certainly are getting a lesson in social justice and the disparity between wealthy countries and the economically disadvantaged! Can't wait to hear about your volunteer experience!!!
Take care! and when you are away from the main cities and towns, make sure your water bottles have never been opened before - a tip we caught on to somewhere in Africa - it looked like the bottles were new and never opened but there was a lot of clever recycling of old bottles made to look new. Just check the seals and buy only bottles with seals.

hi guys, i just thought that because you seemed so concerned about the whole private public health care system that you would like to know that Canada IS a two tier system. we are in fact very private... i would have thought 2 university graduates would know that:P hahaha I hope you are well. Thanks for calling so much Braden. Hi maya

Good evening,
Thank goodness you are ok! Next time tell me that you are well, before you write your blog. I was worried the whole time I was reading! I am impressed with how the two of you discussed the problem of health care. Take care of yourselves - we don't want to read about any more trips to the hospital.
Love Mom

Enjoyed your thoughts re: public vs. private health care & agree with you especially as with doctor & nurse shortages , the private hospitals only further drain resources. Hope you are feeling better Braden! [Neat the way you turned your frustration into a research project] Keep well, both of you. XXX
