Brett & Lindsay's Travels
We've been here just one day, but we've already seen a lot. Hong Kong Harbour, Central, The Produce Markets, City Parks. We took the tram up to Victoria Peak, which travels at about a 45 degree incline. Pretty scary even though hey assured us that they have only had one accident in the last 60 years when the tracks were washed out by a 100 year rainstorm. The view was outstanding. The Hong Kong skyline is probably as impressive as New Yorks with 7 of the world's 20 tallest buildings. Add that to the backdrop of the harbour, with junk boats and cargo ships, kowloon peninsula beyond, and mountains in the background and it will absolutely take your breath away. Lindsay got her dim sum that she has been craving since we left. We have a big day planned today. Monestaryies, temples, 100 foot golden buddha statues, fresh markets with live wild animals, a ferry ride across the harbour at night, and of course more dim sum.
We finished Hong Kong with another bite of dim sum. I've finally gotten brave the last couple of days and tried a couple of the more interesting dishes like sharks fin, which is supposed to bring virility?, and 1,000 year old eggs, a chinese delicacy. They're not really 1,000 years old, but they bury them in the dirt for over a year until they turn into a black jell-o like substance. They're actually quite tasty. I don't know why they insist on hanging the food outside for everyone to see while it's dead, or sometimes not. I'd prefer not to see my food staring at me before I eat it.
