A belated happy Easter to everyone! Excitingly, we managed to find an International Baptist Church to join for Easter Sunday whilst in Kanazawa - on top of a lovely service, Ros was dressed in a full kimono (picture added to the album!) and we were offered some traditional Japanese tea. We also had our favourite katsu curry at a nearby cafe.
The cherry blossom festival had just started when we were in Kanazawa - so we bought some traditional sweets from the stalls lined up to the entrance of the botantical gardens. The sticky rice sweets were pretty nice - although we still prefer chocolate!
After two nights in Kanazawa, we took the new Shinkansen (bullet train) to Nagano. This route only opened in March so the locals are particularly excited by it - a whole aisle in the station Seven Eleven shop was devoted to souvenirs! After spending a few hours in Nagano (trying out their famous soba noodles!), we took the 'Snow Monkey express' to Yamanouchi to stay one night near the hot springs where the Japanese Macaque (known as the snow monkeys due to living in the mountains) go to warm themselves! Our onsen very kindly dropped us off there early in the morning, allowing us a good half an hour to be fully alone with them before the coach loads of tourists arrived. A real magical sight to watch them bathing in the springs - although they probably think us tourists are a bit odd freezing ourselves watching them whilst they enjoy bathing in the nice hot springs!
After spending a few hours at the park, we picked up our bags from the Onsen and travelled onward to a Tokyo for the last four days of our adventures!
