Hey all! In sunny Melbourne now, been here last few days.. amazing city!.. best place i've visited so far. And I know you don't wanna know but... it was 37 degs today!! Couldn't lie in it! Hope that makes you feel warm inside whilst you search for that carrot to finish off your snowman! :-) Hostel is cool too.. called The Greenhouse (no remarks with the name please).. got a proper swish bar next to it.. anyway.. let's fill you in.. Brisbane was abit drab.. like any other city really.. so we spent 2 of the 4 days there travelling to other places.. we went to Maroochydore beach one day, about 2 hours north of Brisbane on the sunshine coast which was cool.. the day after we went to Morton Island - THE WEIRDEST DAY EVER!!.. to explain.. Morton Island is a ferry (or should be) ride away from Brisbane.. 3rd largest sand island in world.. sand dunes etc.. sounded cool. Problem was we got the ferry from the wrong place and ended up on Stranton Island!.. bearing in mind we'd got up at 6am to catch the ferry - we were not amused.. ended up having to get another ferry (or floating piece of metal).. from Straton to Morton.. this barge though dropped us off at the wrong end of the island - some 40kms from the north and anything that resembled civilization!.. no roads.. just desert and trees!.. luckily (if you can call it that) the women from the barge knew people who lived on the island (hillbillies - we feared for our lives etc).. and they looked after us till the return barge went back to the other island!!!.. ended up being a cool day.. sand boarding down massive dunes, got some side splitting vid's of Laura going down at top speed!!.. anyway.. when we finally got back home we worked out that in 12 hours.. we'd took 2 trains, 6 buses and 4 ferrys to get us to this island and back!! quite a day. Oh and while i'm on that.. to answer the 'lazy needs 16 hours sleep Paul''.. on our return me and Jamie were gonna go down to the bar for the quiz.. drinking comps etc.. as I was leaving the room showered and changed Jamie said 'put or name down on the quiz sheet and i'll be down in 5''.. he went to sleep tucked up with Laura and left me to it!! (albeit with someone we'd just met from our room).. ended up down there till gone 1 on the stage representing the UK in a 'down a pint competition'! (I came 3rd.. not the best with downing pints).. ANYWAYS.. spent the last few days getting to know Melbourne.. it's a great place.. mapped out in a perfect grid with trams everywhere to jump on and off.. beautiful gardens etc.. went to Carlton today just out of the city to a swimming baths.. met a mini me (apparently a kid that looked the image of me).. Good to hear from 'The Trotter's'!! hope everythins cool.. Toying with the idea of flying back to Sydney on my own for a while and getting a job there.. met some cool people over there and didn't feel like i'd seen enough of it when it was time to leave so may go back and then come back to Melbourne - watch this space!.. anyways.. sorry for the delay of updated zoo's and new pics.. just spent too much time sunbathing to get to a computer! ;-).. gonna get off and get some tea.. this 'world class chef' who's staying at the hostel is putting together some serious dish!!.. hope everyones good.. pics will be on tomorrow..

G'day ! AWESOME PHOTO'S in the whitsundays . I had oill change for my car on Saturday - a simple job became a 1 hour nightmare because the mechanic could not get the oli filter off and in the process broke a braket holding a pipe in the engine . Being a talkative bloke and wanting to calm an already panic striken mechanic I got talking to him - he admitted that he had been sacked from his last job working as a mechanic and had been involved in an accident whereby he had accidently reveresed into another car (????) . Somewhat perturbed , I ventured to suggest that he might like to try the normal method to remove the oil filter ie to reach for the filter by holding the filter from underneath the car , at which point he asked what I did for a living ( being honest I told him - BIG MISTAKE ) - I then endured 25 minutes invective as he struggled to remove oil filter whilst at the same time questioning my parenthood , the likelihood that I had ever done a days work in my life and the poor state of the restaurants in Bury. Needless to say I was more than grateful when oli change was completed and will in due course return to the same garage.

Howzit going mate. Hope all is well down under! E mailed Mr Williams the other day to enquire about his stress levels at Salford and to find out about his leaving do and he forwarded me your holiday website. Checked out the piccies, they all look like real quality and the Whitsundays have just moved to the top of my places to go list! I also checked out the message board particularly impressed by the messages from Pete "Celebrity Big Brother" Burns. I didnt realise he was a star on the football pitch. Listen mate have a great time (Im sure you are). Happy days. Ian Tranters barmy army
