My last day in Cyprus:(
Today I drove to Nicosia/ Lefkosia ... Whichever you'd like to call it. This morning it was shopping followed by kebab and tabouli in a local cafe. Walked around the Venetian ramparts that border the old city. This afternoon I visited the Museum of Cyprus. Beautiful statue of Aphrodite that I loved. Then it was more shopping, and I also walked to the border ("green line" as it's known here) to see where Turkish Cyprus meets Greek Cyprus. Patrolled by UN soldiers and no photos allowed, but other than that fairly inconspicuous... No signs, no nothing. Just some barbed wire and a bunch of soldiers.
Tomorrow morning I think I might go for one more breakfast and walk along the promenade in Larnaca before flying out. Long haul home... Via London and Dubai.
So- my last blog entry. Here are some of the trip highlights...
1) by far, spending time in the Egyptian western desert with the Bedouin people. One of the best experiences I've ever had.
2) feeling completely dwarfed by ancient monuments in Egypt.
3) standing on various lookouts across Cyprus and marveling at the most amazing cliffs and coastlines. Truly beautiful.
4) having the freedom and challenge of traveling solo. Something I'm very glad to have done.
Thanks everyone for all the messages, I've really enjoyed hearing from all of you, and it's made the trip a lot more enjoyable hearing lots of little things from home. This trip has been an absolute blast, thanks for letting me share it with you. I will see you all very soon!!
Lots of love to everyone!!
