Bob and Nige-The World Tour 2006! (Fi & Jen)
Hey Fans
Well here we are in North India - after the initial shock of Dehli airport ( the toilets were the single most disgusting thing we have ever witnessed!) - we were keen to get as far away as possible. So we hired a chauffer for 10 days to whisk us round the sights (us - lazy?? u think??). The taxi driver, 'AJ', 22 (NOT FIT) is a real joker, a terrible driver, and does not understand a word we say - it has certainly been eventful.
First stop on the grand tour was the village of Mandowa, which we arrived to in the dead of night- it was a real Addams family hotel complete with a village tour the following day from no other than Gomez himself! a real treat!
We then travelled to a pilgrimage sight in Bikner- a temple full of rats! where people worshipped the little beasts and brought them numerous presents - they were loving it and so were we - judging by the amount of snaps we took of the place!
The next hotel was a real luxury ( 5* roughing it-haha!) and needless to say, the entire contents of the mini bar were devoured within half an hour of arrival. We then crashed an engagement party which was going on down stairs. The locals were a little shy at first but within an hour we had become the star attractions!
The kids were loving us and we were quickly whisked off to strutt our stuff on the dance floor. Having caused enough of a scene already we tried to take a back seat in the proceedings! This proved impossible - we were swarmed with hundreds of kids begging for autographs, photographs, and english coins! The next thing we knew the hotel manager was escorting us from the event and asking politely if we could leave. We had apparently caused a real stir amongst the local boys who were getting dangerously excited by our presenceand skimpy clothes! (We were wearing combats and t-shirts!) - HILARIOUS.
Taxi driver then took us to Jalismer after much confusion about his directions and orders - a real error - however, lucky as usual we were escorted around the 'city of gold' by a Maharajahs descendant - royalty itself - only the best for us! This extended access tour for us two only also included holy sights, temples and a yoga and buddhist worship sight in the middle of the city lake by sunset - a real honour - then by moonlight we were taken on a desert walk around the lake to another pilgrimmage sight and worship temple before heading to a service in a hindu temple - complete with wild singing that would put to shame even our greatest efforts on a drunken evening out!!! we were inspired!
So next day we packed up the bags - Nige is really causing a mess with hers - clothes everywhere the rooms are more like a bombsite than a luxury!! anyway we were whisked to the Thar desert village of Khuri where our bed for the night was in a mud hut made of cow pat and a birds nest roof - better than it sounds - we spent the afternoon on a camel safari then watched the sunset over the sand dunes of the national park which was spectacular - the taxi driver was loving the fact that nige was rolling down the biggest of the sand dunes - shrieking with joy in fact! it was hilarious to see! obviously I was a much better driver than Nige on the camel-she couldnt even control the thing - it kept whisking her off to eat bushes and turd all over the place - vile! The mud hut village also provided dancing and music of an eve although we did not participate in the spectacle.
Today we spent the afternoon touring the sights of Jodphur. We visited Mehrangarh fort whcih was really amazing - the fort towers above the whole city which is entirely blue washed. Towards the end of the trip I persuaded Bob to visit Astrologer and palmist of 30 years, 'Dr Sharma'! Bob, although sceptical at first, was utterly gobsmacked by his wisdom! He told us all about our health, happiness, jobs and love life and was surprisingly accurate in detailing past experiences, personality traits and our weaknesses without us uttering a word. Sounds far fetched but it was scary!
So were heading to Agra for the Taj Mahal in the next couple of days and to Jaipur before catching a flight to Bankok on Monday.
