Cusco is a pretty incredible city. Theres been civilization of one type or another here for many centuries and each has left a great deal of culture, art and buildings. Because of this its packed with tourists, and probably even more people trying to make or scam a buck from tourists.
The first day we were here, we were rushing around getting prices for a trek to Machu Picchu. Then, having realised that we had no clean clothes, we had to wash them, and organise them to be dried (which they didn't). Also had to get on the net and buy plane tickets, because time is ticking, and while we've seen alot of things, theres still Central America and Mexico to see before the 30th of June.
Next 5 days we were on our trek, and after getting home from that at 1 in the morning, of course the most sensible thing to do was get up at 6.30 and go to Pisac, where we walked around the markets for the morning. That wasn't enough, so we caught a taxi (thank god) up to the Pisac ruins, and walked around there, then walked back to Pisac. Had lunch, then caught a bus to some more ruins (called Saqsaywaman) where we walked around and then walked back to Cusco. We had been harassed by so many people trying to sell things or beg or whatever that BJ was ready to punch someone. To top it off, having got there at 1am, we couldn't remember the name of our hostel/ how can you tell a taxi driver where to go if you don't know the name, or even the street! Anyway we found a map and figured out the street and we got back there.
Next couple of days were a little hectic, because we realised we had to leave for Lima sooner than we thought, so we rushed around seeing museums, a dance show, said goodbye to our friends from the trek (snif) and left on a bus to Lima.
It ended up being over 18 hours on the bus, when we got there we only had enough time to get ripped off by a taxi driver, find a hostel (thanks for the tip Anna and Sarah/ hostel Espana was perfect), print our plane tickets, have KFC (big mistake- see entry for Tobago) and go to bed early 8pm. Our flight was at 5.30, you have to be there 3 hours early, it takes half an hour to get there. We got up not long after 1 am.
This was our goodbye to South America, which was sad, but we've got so much to see. Next stop/ Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean!!
