This morning has been one for the books. We were up at 6:00 to get on our way to the port to catch our ferry. The first bus was at 7:10, we had one bus change, then we're scheduled to arrive at 7:58. Our ferry was at 8:45 they suggest being there 30 minutes early, but we wanted to give ourselves a little wiggle room. Well hallelujah we did! Keep in mind that no streets have signs nor do bus stops have labels. So it's up to you to know where you're going or to ask the driver for help. Well, we relied on the driver. I don't know if he didn't understand or if the map just lied about times, because what was supposed to be a 6 minute walk from the stop to the ferry took us 45 minutes. We were speed walking as fast as we could and the distance just seemed to keep getting longer and longer. A nice man pulled over and asked if we were going to the ferry, because it was a far ways away. He offered us a ride, and although everyone has been very nice to us so far, we still we're not about to get into a strangers car, especially that of a middle aged man and us being two young girls, so we respectfully declined and continued on our way. Well, we were cutting it closer and closer and we still could not see the light. At 8:30 or so a bus pulls over and calls to us. He had no passengers in the bus and had seen us as he drove up and down the road on his route and knew we were going to miss the ferry if we were trying to walk, so he picked us up and brought us to the ferry. If he haven't, I have literally no idea what we would have done. Thankful doesn't even come close to describing the gratitude we have for this bus driver. The workers on the ferry jokingly heckled us that we were going to miss it but we made it on without a hitch. The ferry was very exquisite: a restaurant, decks, tables, chairs, wifi (although it didn't work), slot machines, the works. Well, the weather was bad and made for a bumpy ride, and although it has never happened before, I got extremely seasick, and this caught me really off guard. I then proceeded to pass out on the table and sleep for the remainder of the ride. We then get off the boat, and load a bus to take us to the train, and as we get off the bus we notice a huge sign that says Welcome to Wales! I don't know if we just weren't paying attention to a map or if it was poorly advertised, but we had no idea we were going to Wales! It was exciting though and although we only got to see a quick glimpse of the city we were in, it's cool to be able to add another country to the list! We grab our luggage and proceed to the platform that says To London. The train workers kept trying to get us to get on the train on the other platform though and we couldn't figure out why, we are going to London not rural Wales like this train says! But when we get to the London platform, it says the next train isn't coming until 2:00, and one was supposed to be arriving just then! We wait, and when it doesn't come, and the sign doesn't mention the one coming at 12:30, we go and ask for help. Well, they decided then to clarify that the original train WAS the one for London that was supposed to come right then, it just requires a quick transfer. If we had known that we would have gotten right on, but oh well, the next one was coming in 50 minutes, so we hung around, grabbed some good, chatted with other people in the same situation, and waited for the train. The train system seems to be really simple, we are almost to the transfer location at Chester, then another 2 hour train and we will be in London!
It was a beyond crazy morning that didn't exactly go as planned, but we are getting to London and that is all that matters. Hope this morning isn't an indicator of how the next 3 days in London will go! Just kidding, it's going to be great!
