Now the last few days have taught me that things are what you make them..... The world is as big or small as you make it, the world is as special as you make it, as complicated as you make it, as exciting as you make it, as fun as you make it, and as whole as you make it. I have just been lucky enough to be part of my best friends wedding in Kent, even though I live in Australia. 24 hours, which actually is only 12 hours of being awake and I can be back!! I remember the Facebook message asking me to be bridesmaid sent with the prefix that Paula understood how far away I lived and understood the cost implications involved and therefore never expected it but wanted me to know that her ideal would always be me to be there to share that day with her and be her bridesmaid. I didn't even have to think about my answer for a millisecond. Six days later and my tickets were booked back to the uk! The world really isn't that big and what proves it more than just being able to nip across it for a weekend with your nearest and dearest!
What a wonderful weekend of family and besties! After meeting Mum and Dad at the airport the first thing that hit me was the cold......Jesus Christ.....bitter was an understatement, although with a sever lack of coat and bear legs I probably wasn't dressed for zero degree weather! The next thing that I observed was just how familiar everything was and how I kept having to pinch myself and remind myself I actually was living on the other side of the world on Manly Beach!!
Having spent the night with very dear family friends in Caroline & Cliff (of whom I do have a habit of descending on after travels) we made our way to Cooling in deepest darkest Kent for the wedding of the year! The afternoon I have to say was close to topping the whole weekend and would have won should I have not watched my beautiful friend get married the next day! Unfortunately we didn't win and the Irish beat us in the opening game to the 2013 six nations (let's hope this is not to be a trend that continues), however I was sat with a cider in hand watching a welsh rugby game with my Dad.......content as f$ck!!
We became locals and had our last meal with the Miss 'worm' Gillam also in the local boozer. A lovely evening of family, close friends and red wine.
The wedding was magical and of course Paula made the most beautiful bride, not that there was any question of this. Through what was an exceedingly emotional day for a lot, for reasons out of anyone's control we
Monday morning came round quickly and it was time to leave Cooling Barn and some of my loved ones for a day in The Big Smoke and more loved ones. I met up with my Gran and Aunty for a fabulous champagne lunch throughout which I checked my tickets and calculated that I was a day early for my flight! I seem to have this relaxed and 'what ever attitude' when I travel alone, it's almost as though I'll set the pace and no one else will interrupt....however sometimes I think , maybe I should just be a little more organised, have itineraries printed off or at least write down the flight time and numbers so I don't have to rely on wifi hotspots! However, as always a little detour in the journey or hiccup like being 24 hours early for a flight only adds and enhances the experience. Instead of just a snatched lunch with two of the most supportive and influential ladies in my life...I had a whole evening with them and got to see my uncle.....and more champagne! The next day I planned to chill, book internal Brazil flights and in general make sure I was organised for my next adventure, that was before I mentioned on Facebook my mistake the day before and put it out there to London Town that I may have a day to kill..........the mention of art, wine, lunch, bubbles and more art enticed me out of the house early doors without a thought for my organising to be done......After all I had a 11 hour flight for organising!
So, I had actually added 24 hours to my life which I would never have had if I hadn't been early for my flight, what an awesome thing! And what a 24 hours it was, full of great friends, good food, celebrity chefs and art gallery owners, amazing art and of course washed down with plenty of bubbles. However, this wonderful day ran away with me and after slightly underestimating the time the tube took to get to the airport I arrived for my flight after they had closed check in! Ironic that just the day before I was 24 hours early for the same flight! Oh dear!!
