Bex's Adventures
My last day in Hanoi was great, i visited the Ho Chi Minh museum where i saw the north Vietnamese side of the war to balance the literature i had read and i visited his house on stilits. i went to the Temple of Literature, a large temple and grounds that was also used as the first university in Vietnam and had a lot of interesting features. I got talking to a tour guide about life in Vietnam and turns out that if you want an education your destined to be single as no man wants an educated woman that he can't control! The average age to get married is 22 and a man researhes his fiancee to make sure she is god and pure first! Such a different society to here! I left Hanoi on the sleeper bus which wasnt so bad! The beds were long enough for me and i slept quite well! We arrived in Hue in the morning and i walked to the Citadel with an English couple i had met. The citadel is the ancient capital and much of it is in ruins but it still has a lot of interesting history and some buildings left. We hired 3 motorbike drivers and they took us to a couple of royal tombs which were actually set in massive grounds and gardens and comprised of many buildings. We went to see the famous pagoda were monks protested to the bar by burning themselves to death. Back in the city we found a lovely restauraunt for some iced coffees and dinner and spent the evening exploring the centre and having a few beers. Left Hue on the bus yesterday morning and arrived in Hoi An around 11am. We hired 3 bikes, this tmie to drive ourselves and hit the road. It was a 5 mile ride to the beach resort where we had some great seafood (I gotpresented with an entire crab) and then chilled on the beach and in te warm sea. Hoi An is the best place in Asia to have clothes made for you so i did pop into a tailor to order a couple of things. We went for an exploratory ride into the sunset then drove back to the beautiful hotel which is set around a small courtyard with a pol in the middle. Went for a swim here then went a a lovely restauraunt for some more seafood. Its all so fresh here and delicious you cant not have it. Had a few drinks at a local bar and then anearly nigt. This morning i am going back for re fittings then back to the beach! Getting the night bus tonight to Na Trang another beach resort.
