Rebecca's South America Travels
Last night we arrived in Arequipa after a very long drive from Nazca. The drive tho was amazing as the road past along the coast and so the scenery was fantastic. However there were many terrifying turns with sheer cliffs at the side.Weather here is still gorgeous-haven't got burnt yet though. It is getting slightly cooler though especially at night as we move from the desert to higher altitude. Haven't got any bad illnesses yet-tummy sometimes feels a bit dodgy especially after taking the malaria tablets-im starting to get some side effects from them. OUr tour guide siad that actually there was no need to take them as we don't actually pass into an malaria area. I have stopped taking them tho for now as there is no chance due to the altitude. What do u think about that? just that they were making traveling in the bus v. uncomfortable. I will start taking them again just as we leave bolivia as i swear i read in sev books that there is in north argentina. There's only risk of dengue fever in most parts. You should see the state of my legs. they are covered in huge swollen bites. It's funny as i never saw one single mossie for the first days but as we started camping we've all got bitten. Not sure whether mossies or sand flys tho. I will try and write in sometime what i've done for the last few days.
So anyway, we camped last night in the grounds of a hostal and doing again so tonight. The camping is ok, only got a sore back when i didn't inflate my mat properly. Also im not v good at living out of a rucksack, i can never find anything and always end up making a mess of the tent. Poor susan (aussie,25) whom im sharing tent with is nice. Still feeling tho like people don't reallly want me around. It's diffciult having to keep tagging on to groups of friends as it isn't really safe for me to go out alone.
Today, so far its 10.56am here i've had a continental breakfast - we have v early mornings wake at about 6.30am - im becoming quite run down and tired now and have been to visit the Santa Catalina Monestry which was amazing. After writing this im heading towards the plaza de armas to take some more pics-im trying to take lots of pics esp as there are loads of places to put them onto cd quite cheaply.Tomorrow we head to Chivay to the Colca Canyon. I'll try my hardest to get this all up to date and i apologise for any spelling or grammer mistakes as i am trying to right as fast as possible. Missing you all v much. lots of love Rebecca xxx
