The infamous book burning event took place here, when thousands of Nazis, including students, burned the literature written not only by Jews, but anyone at odds with the regime. For those Indiana Jones fans, Hitler was not there and therefore did not sign autographs either. One plaque commemorates the event. The other is a quote from a guy who lived in the early 1800s which says something like "first they burn the books, then the people.". Eerily prophetic.
