Ben's Travel Journal
We had our first BIG night out since arriving in Japan (and we had only popped out for some food and "a couple of drinks")! Spent the whole of the next day lying in bed watching the GP on TV - didn't feel too guilty as it was pissing down with rain all day!
Overall, Tokyo left me feeling a little unimpressed to be honest. I didn't feel that there were many things to actually visit - it was more a case of just going to different areas and having a bit of a wonder around (again, I don't think there was much left after WWII). Having said that we did visit the fish market which was interesting (although by the time we got there things were winding down a bit); The Imperial Palace (can't actually get in so we walked all the way AROUND it - must have been miles); oh and we went up what is apparently the world's longest escalator (hey, it doesn't get any more exciting than that)!!!
The big, bright neon lights that I had been expecting weren't any brighter than any of the other cities we've visited in Japan which was a shame. Still it was great fun people-watching.....the hair-dos, the makeup, the clothes......and that was just the blokes!!!
If you like to shop, then this is definitely the place to come to because the Japanese LOVE to shop!! Not only do you have the department stores (the largest 2 in the world), but you also have the underground shopping malls that stretch on for miles. It's just a shame that most these shops seem to cater only for women!
