Spent a few days in Xi'an where we spent most of our time walking around the Muslim quarter. This area was full of little food and nicknack stalls. The people looked a lot different to people in Beijing, more middle-eastern. The food was excellent as usual, one evening we went to a restaurant run by about 30 children, the oldest being about 14. Kebabs, fried veg, noodles and dumplings for about 2 pound a head, can't complain!
The city was much smaller than Beijing, however still very large with over 6 million people. It all centred around 2 towers, the drum and bell tower where each day the children would perform traditional music with the said instruments.
The terracotta warriors were pretty impressive, but didn't quite have the "wow" factor I had expected. We watched a video in a 360 degree cinema explaining the history of the statues and what had happened thousands of years ago (210bc), then saw 3 pits of the statues. The first 2 pits were fairly small and not fully excavated, however the 3rd pit was huge with thousands of statues. It's quite impressive to think how old they are.
