Hello again.
Greetings from Singapore, the most expensive place in the world (maybe). Paying tennpence for beer for the last month has skewed my value system somewhat and I am finding myself angry and confused at having to pay real money for things. Plus we finally bit the bullet and stayed in a dorm with....*shudder*...other people. In hindsight six days here was a big mistake, we should of stayed on Koh Lanta..ho hum.
Malaysia is an interesting place- all the different southern asian influences seem to come together and although it is more westernised than Thailand in cleanliness and Starbucks-on-every-corner-ism it seems to retain a very asian feel. You can walk about a hundred yards and go from Little India to chinatown and it is like being in a different country.
We arrived in Kuala Lumpur from Thailand after about a ten hour bus ride to find that I had booked the wrong two nights at the hotel we were due to stay at. Plus they were full. Hey, we all make mistakes. Fortunatly they did have a spare room at their sister hotel but we would have to make the beds up as housekeeping didnt hang around till eleven. Lazy housekeeping. As (most of) you can imagine, Sarah was thrilled.
The next day we went all over KL and saw lots of sights, in fact we probably over did it, leaving ourselves with 3 days to go and very little left to see. We ate at a Kedai Kopi in the evening which you can see on the photos.. it was mega cheap and really good food, though we may as well have been wearing giant pink hats for all the attention we got- there arent nearly as many tourists here so Sarah was subjected to quite a lot of stares- serves her right for baring her arms the harlot!
The remaining days we just chilled out and saw a few more sights (including a memorable trip to........the cinema. Then we took the train to Singapore, oblivious to the expense that was to come. Today we are going to the botanical gardens...best of all, it is free HOORAY.
