Today was a nice day exploring Florence. The only thing on our agenda was to see the Duomo (the church with the huge dome to the right in the photo), and we ended up taking a nice tour. Our guide was great, and we learned a lot about how Florentines made decisions about the church. It was a very different perspective than the Protestant churches we have visited thus far. Not every fresco is religious. We also learned that they believe Mary ascended into Heaven...we will have to look that one up :)
We did climb the 300 some odd steps to the top, which provided a fantastic view. The spiral stair cases are not my favorite. Thank goodness I had two great guys in front of me in case I got so dizzy I fell. The photos from the top are amazing.
After lunch we headed through the street markets; those were interesting. Actually, they were mostly leather purses, belts, shirts, shoes, and scarves. We bought a magnet. To get out of the heat for a bit we came back to the hotel and sat in the garden area and played cards. It was relaxing. Dinner was a bit of an odd combination, but it was good. Afterwards we tried gelato on a waffle. It was one of the best foods thus far. However, eating it was interesting. They put the waffle on a piece of wax paper and pile the gelato on top. We ended up inhaling the melting gelato and then eating the waffle. It was wonderful, but it would have been better on a plate with a fork inside of a restaraunt instead of on the sidewalk!
Tomorrow we get back in the car to drive through the Tuscany wine region. We are touring a winery in a castle and then heading into Rome. After tomorrow, we will be back on the bus system. I'm not sure which is scarier. Last stop, Rome.

Martha Sad to see "Last Stop, Rome." will be glad to have you back home, but sorry to see this adventure come to an end.
Vicki Loving your blogs! Let me forewarn you that you and Jesus will have an even closer relationship if you ride with an Italian taxi driver to the Rome airport! The best advice is to just close your eyes and pray all the way. Not to scare you, but it's one of those things in life when you pray and tell God that if he let's you live that you'll never again do anything that wreckless!!! In other words, Ben will LOVE it!
Lou Ann Glad to hear you all are having such a great time! I had to laugh about the street market. Purses, belts , shirts, shoes and scarves and you bought a magnet. You will have to let me know what gelato is. Be safe and will see you all soon!

Angela Taylor Vicki, we are taking a car to the airport Sunday. After being in the car with no idea of any of the rules, I feel certain I can pray through it! Martha, I will be glad to be home. Ben wants a real Coke with ice and free refills as soon as we land in Charlotte. Lou Ann, gelato is Italian ice cream, it is AMAZING. Mom, we have lots of video; we need a dinner date soon. Love you all.
