Thought it was about time for another blog entry as we are now in Nepal! After the Taj we headed back upto Delhi for a last day of shopping and sightseeing and booking our train tickets to goa (which we eventually managed to do after having to persist with people that we didnt want a pricey independent tourist office!). we caught a taxi to the airport the next day, however to our despair when we arrived we found out that we were at the domestic airport and not the international one-oops! Slight panic but all was ok when the taxi driving bombed it through delhi to get us there in time.
It was absolutely amazing flying in from India as there were gorgeous hills surrounding Kathmandu airport and everything looked so green compared to India. We are staying in a place called Thamel which is very different to Delhi as it is more developed and really geared up for tourists as most backpackers stay here before heading to Pokhara for the trek. The small streets are lined with shops selling amazing and really authentic nepali and tibetan sourvenirs-I am fighting hard against my great desire to buy everything as I know I will regret the extra weight on the trek!
We've had such an awesome time wondering about the shops and eating out at a really nice outdoors restaurant. Last night we went to one of the only bars here which had sheesha pipes (planning to smoke them tonight) and got chatting to some finish guys and a girl from leeds who we are meeting tonight for a meal.
Today we went the famous Durba square which is packed with loads of buddhist temples-incredible architecture! We also went to the monkey temple, which has a very recognisable symbol of Buddha on the top-a common picture in books about Nepal.Tonight we are going to a nepali restaurant where we can eat with our hands!Looking forward to it!
Tommorrow we are catching the bus to Pokhara where we start our trek...its about 12 days of treking. Cant wait to see the amazing himalayan mountains! Will update you again when I can! Love to you all and hope you are all well!
