Hello from Los Angeles......
well we're not actually there anymore but as you may have noticed we have got really behind on the ol' blog. It's going to take a while to catch up but we'll start with LA. We were both pretty excited to get to America- Becky in particular was up every morning asking me when I was getting up to go out...Becky hearts USA!
I found it a bit of culture shock for a while after South America. We were a bit nervous about the immigration part but got through fine though Bex got grilled by her guy. We arrived at Adventurer Hostel pretty late but still went for our free champagne in the bar. This hostel was not in the nicest part of town but the most free stuff i've come across anywhere...muffins for breakfast, cookies in afternoon, tea and coffee all day, odd dinner buffet of rice, potatoes and chips (carbs anyone!), champagne and cake!
So we decided to stay depite being in a slightly dodgy area. The first night we met some funny drunk people including Bobby and old America dude who advised us we should go to Memphis to 'Rump with the Funk' or something like that- surreal...
Over our week in LA we went to Hollywood, Santa Monica and Venice Beach. We also spent a few days doing nothing to chill out and save some money and of course wander the delightful Century Boulevard! We did the proper tourist thing and went on a Hollywood tour which was great. Visited the sign, Belair and Beverley Hills- some very nice houses and famous homes. The shops were a bit out of our league though!
Hollywood Boulevard was good fun and we searched for a special someone for Bex..... and saw the hand prints at Chinese Theatre.
Had a massivey long walk when we took the free hostel shuttle to a local beach and decided to walk to Venice Beach. This took about 2 hours and we got a tad lost but made it eventually to BoHo Venice which was nice. Had a hot dog and got offered some legal weed...nice. (Don't panic Mum we refused)
Also visited Santa Monice Beach on Thanksgiving which was pretty and the pier was fun. Also found a British shop which sold good ol' fashioned sweets from home...awesome.
So LA was fun and bizarre and relaxing all in all. We managed to book all our flights pretty much and get ourselves sorted. Next stop San Francisco via Greyhound...should I be nervous!
Big hugs to all
Kate and Becky xxx
