Sa-wat-dee-ka!! So I'm in Bangkok, safe and sound in the Land of Smiles. Just. No one warned me about the dangers of Thai transportation before I got here!
Within 24 hours I've experienced a thai taxi, train, boat and tuk tuk. And I can tell you that I've experienced about 10 near death experiences (sorry mum and dad). They honestly all drive like they are playing on grand theft auto/ dodgems.
After everyone feeling abit daunted and homesick lastnight we decided this morning to explore Bangkok which turned into a 'ramble'. Thats what the boys called it anyway, we were basically lost all morning, but in a fun, exploring way! After stumbling upon the river and a taxi boat and experiencing a lovely thai traditional toilet minus toilet roll on the way(eurgh), it was smooth sailing. The boat ride was amazing, we saw fish farms, water lizards (they were huge and gross!) and bought fans from the floating markets, finally ending at our desired destination; The Grand Palace. Which was closed. Apparently nothing goes to plan in Thailand, their motto is Mai Pen Rai, literally "never mind"...
So with that in mind we ended up having a yummy chicken pad thai. (Ash would have been proud). from a street vendor, yes a street vendor. And then meeting the smiliest Thai man ever ...."ah teacha teacha you come teach inglish to ar children, I am so pleased, you such a nice teacha!!!" Who was so happy about our new teaching jobs that he got us some awesome deals on tuk tuks. Which are SO fun and SO scary! And the nice man even let me sit in the drivers seat, an experience to say the least. AND we got to see a hugggggge buddha (picture to follow).
All in all a very thai cultured fun day followed by drinks on the rooftop, watching the thunder and lightening monsoon across the city. Jealous?
But as good as it sounds everyone is pretty eager to get to the island and settle down, Bangkoks a little claustrophobic strangely. However with a few days left here what better to do than visit the huge American style mall and commit some serious retail therapy(our plan for tomorrow...)
