Mammoth trip and finally arrived in New Zealand after 38hrs of travel and a loss of one day! Got to Auckland, nice to be in a country where you don't stand out and can walk alone!
Saw Auckland, some galleries and sights! Then set off the next day on the stray bus. This bus is a hop on hop off jobby, but I'm going to be on the move a while! Driven by a driver nicknamed captain planet, with an array of nationalities on the bus, headed off to Hahai. Was welcomed to New Zealand with....rain! So opted to drink tea and chat to the tour people as opposed to freeze on a rainy walk!
Next day, post a rainy BBQ went to raglan, good for surfing. So despite the weather had my first ever surf lesson! Being the only one had one to one tuition, so managed to actually stand up! So much fun!
Monday we headed to waitamo caves, where we absailed 20meters into the cave, down waterfalls in the cave, and dealt with some tiny holes! Saw glowworms, and had some education on them. Quite challenging but awesome thing to do. Followed by an evening in a Maori meeting house, learning the mauri songs and dances, dressing like them and watching the men in the group attempt the Hakka, very funny!
Following day, obviously not content with the amount of activity, embarked on White water rafting in Rotarua, involving a 7metre waterfull. Definatly woke me up! Was brilliant!
Stayed at lake Taupo, did not get tempted by the skydive.
Headed off again the next morning to Tongariro national park. Yep, finally found gollums home! With mount doom (for the Lord of the Rings fans). Had my first ski lesson and adjusted to snow, random. Loved skiing, trying to think about how I can afford a skiing holiday next! That's been it so far, silly amount of activity but all well worth it. Head to south island soon, less action, more walking there perhaps!
