Have been having too much of a good time to do a post recently, so am a bit sketchy on the detail...
I have fallen in love with Russia, especially St Petersburg. It is such an amazingly beautiful city with an even richer history. Have learnt so much about Russian history over the last few days and haven't even touched the surface - thus is definitely something I would like to learn some more of before coming back.
Did all the usual highlights in Moscow - red square, the Kremlin and St Basil's and some other cool places too like the museum of modern art, the modern history museum and the oldest surviving convent in Russia...
St Petersburg was even better! Instantly felt at home and spent so much time just wandering aimlessly taking it all in... Saw some awesome Russian art and went to see Don Quixot (a ballet) at the Mariinsky Theatre - such a stunning theatre and an amazing experience. Also celebrated my birthday in St Petersburg and those that I had been traveling with who made it to St Petersburg made it very special. Such great company in such a foreign place - went out to dinner and then hit some great bars with great music and even got a free bottle of bubbles by flashing my passport to prove it was my birthday! Made it home at 6am and wok about 10.30 with a killer headache - I am definitely getting too old for this! Was worth it though for the fun night
I had.
Just caught the metro (I've heard it is the deepest in the world and I would believe it too - the escalators are never ending - you could read a Harry potter novel on one of these things!) and a bus to the airport to catch my flight to Helsinki.
With some sadness, signing off, from Russia with love...
