Retired & Traveling
We were up in time to see our arrival into St. Thomas, and even though it was still fairly dark, it was just beautiful. We saw several people in hotels we were passing take our picture. I'm sure it's quite a sight to see this enormous ship arriving.
Our room faced the dock and we actually had a prime location for disembarking. Our tour didn't begin until 11:15, so we decided to get off and do some shopping/looking around, after breakfast of course. :))
Most of the shops weren't open but a few were and we took advantage of their a/c, as it's quite warm here. We came out of one of the shops and I told Kathi, "It's raining!" The sun was shining and she was looking to her left where it wasn't raining yet--and then within two minutes it had stopped.
We found our magnets and got back on the ship to change shoes and grab a few things, then it was off to zip line!
We met our tour right off the ship and they loaded us onto a large van and away we went. They drive on the opposite side of the road here and geez, that takes some getting used to! We arrived at our zip line company, got fitted with our helmets, harnesses and our trolleys and were off to the first platform.
This is my third time to zip line and every one has been different! This time we had to carry our own carabineer things which weighed about 38 pounds, according to our instructor. We also had to walk across two wiggly swinging bridges that were very sloped and I was a nervous wreck because my shoes were extremely slippery! However, I made it without incident, and Kathi did, too. We could not have asked for a prettier day and the views were amazing! We couldn't get over how scenic it was. The last Zipline was called the Yoyo, because you went forward and then backward and had to be caught and climb down a ladder on wheels, see the photo.
By the time we returned to our ship, we had worked up an appetite, so we decided to give Alfredo's Pizza place a try, and had a cold beer, too. That one tasted so good that we went to the Crooners Lounge where it was happy hour, buy one get one free. That one tasted so good, we decided to order a bucket from room service so that we could sit on our balcony and watch our sail away. The bucket scratched the itch for any additional beer. :))
The Princess Royal was docked right next to us all day and as she was sailing away, we were thinking, "that's just what we look like!" Our ship blows the horn as she's sailing away and in honor of the 50th anniversary, in addition to blowing the horn, they play an intro from the Love Boat tv show theme song!! Kathi captured it on her phone, it's so cool!
We waited and waited and waited some more, thinking that any minute we would be setting sail, but no--and then the captain came on the intercom and said for four passengers to immediately contact him...which told us that they were missing. As luck would have it, our balcony faced the check in location so we could see what was happening. Passengers were due to be back on our ship by 5:30 and at 6:15, the four missing people finally showed up! This delayed us watching the sail away as it was dark by the time we got under way. It also meant that we didn't get seated for dinner until almost 8:00. By the time we had finished dinner, we were both full and zapped from zipping (not to mention our beer drinking) and fell asleep watching tv in our room.
And for those of you curious about errands--I had to visit the Passenger Services desk, the Internet Café, The Captains Circle (to make sure Kathi could attend the Welcome thing with me), you know...errands! haha
