We arrived in Christchurch at 6pm in the Saturday, just in time for drinks at the Robinsons and a lovely meal at Saggio di Vino, after which we caught the tail end of a concert in Hagley Park (claimed to be the 3rd largest city park in the world) and fireworks which Tim and Catherine had kindly laid on for us. Sunday brunch at Brigitte's set us up for a stroll round the city, including the botanic gardens, the Arts Centre ( included Rutherfords Den, NZ's most famous scientist ), St Pauls Cathedral, tram ride and a visit to a particularly good micobrewery where we had the first beer in weeks that didn't freeze our tonsils. Monday's weather was not promising so we spent a great part of the day at the fascinating Antarctic Centre where we experienced an Antarctic storm, rode in a Hagglund all terrain vehicle and learnt a lot about exploration and protection of that continent. The day ended with a lovely dinner at the T&C's before next morning biddinga fond farewell to our campervans and to NZ.
