One of the best places I visited while in UK was definitely Brighton.
We woke at the ungodly hour of 6 AM and basically ran out of the house and to the train station, which sounds OK, but really isn't because is about 45 mins walk away.
We thought we were on time so were just walk fast until I realised we had about 10 mins until the only train left! We ran as fast as we could considering the circumstances and just jumped on the train as the doors were closing PHEW!
Brighton is beautiful, it reminded me a little of byron bay. It had a very bohemian feel to it. Its at the beach and has a huge pier coming out of it, with an aquarium and theme park on the end. At night the whole pier lights up and you can hear the screams of delight from children falling off rollercoasters into the depths of the black sea. The beach has stones on it, not sand, but that has its advantages too. No sandy pants or picking it out of your hair weeks after. On the day we went down it was a Sunday and the heatwave was still going on so the beach was PACKED, everyone from Clapton Common the day before decided to head to the beach so it was crazy! It was good too though because there was live bands, and performers everywhere!
Anyway we got to brighton at about 9 am which was really good and headed straight to have a big brekky, dropped our bags off and then when off to see the brighton palace!
It was very beautiful, completely furnished and very glamourous! It was interesting because it was designed in a Oriental fashion because that was very " in" at that point in time! It was so incredible and defs the best castle/church I saw on my trip!
After this we went to an area of brighton called " the lanes" suggested by Neil, which was actually a very good idea. It was basically hippy at its finest, full of vegan cafes, hemp clothes stores and people walking in circles. It also had a very groovy side to it too, lots of vintage and retro stores, and those stores you really can't categorize. it was so much fun winding through all the little ally-ways full of people selling jewelry and records. We where there for hours. After some admittedly very good vegan food we headed to the other side of the town to find some cheap swimmers ( managed to forget our swimmers on the beach!)
We watched a cool band and had a delicous milkshake - from a shop a bit like boost juice mixed with cold rock icecream. You could even get a milkshake there that had edible gold in it!
Anyway we finally found some swimmers, but by that time it was 6 ish and we were tired so after a snooze at our dodgy hotel we went out to dinner at a cool little pub and saw yet another live band before crashing early.
The next day in the morning we went to the aquarium which was cool because i haven't been to one in a billion years. We went on a glass bottom boat and fed turtles! It was all very kiddish but cool!
The afternoon was lazy but great. We walked up and down the pier and I go a Henna tattoo ( to trick my parents, didn't work) we spent the rest of the afternoon lazing around on the beach I was at a really good bit in my book so was furiously reading. It was lovely!
We went out to dinner at a nice italtian place and we walked back through a newly discovered maze of little shops that where sadly closed. I did manage so see the biggest cake I had ever seen though! It was a mish mash of wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and cup cakes, taller than I was and decorated perfectly. It was incredible!
We hopped on the 50 min train and was home in time for the late night movie!
