So Sharan, Anisha and I have all but done Rio...time to get away from the city and the beach and got to an island, with a beach. A short-ish bus ride back down the coast, a 'dodgy' boat ride to the island and we are sound as a pound. Trek along the beach to get to our accomodation (thank you, again, Anish xxx) fording a stream - unaware at that point there's a road through the jungle to get there.
Ihla Grande is a protected island, the main port is relatively small and the main activities involve boat trips to other parts of the island....which we did. A little bit of snorkelling here, a lot of sunbathing (after a hike) on Praia Lopes Mendes and you have got yourself the perfect little getaway - makes a good weekend out for native RIo dwellers, i imagine. Much surfing here on select spots too, if you're in to that sort of thing.
We stay three nights, plenty of time for relaxing there - found a lovely local restaurant, like some lady's house....word must have got out, as the second time we went there, it was heaving....had to wait 20 minutes for a table. Very friendly people here.
I was please to find we had booked the official ferry back to the mainland, which hooked up with as minivan - after a quick change with another minivan halfway, we were dropped off at our door in good ol' Rio. The last week was upon us.
