Now Ko Tao is the 3rd island we headed for and we conquered Bangkok, so finding somewhere to stay would be easy. Again Wrong! Again its Midday and again we got lost! The guide book said turn left at a cafe when you get off the pier, which we did and then keep walking, we walk and find a dirt track and give up and find a taxi driver who will take us somewhere on the beach. We are happy.
Where he drops us is over our budget so we kindly and discretly say no thanks and are left with a dilema, left or right. Well we knew deep down which ever we went would be wrong, so we got over it and went the wrong way and found a place that was even more over our budget than the first place and staye there for a night. This place was ok, it came with air con, fridge, tv and your very own geko lizard. We named him Liam. After we replaced the several gallons of liquid we had lost through sweating we went on a walk to find somewhere cheaper for the next night and maybe a new area to stay. So obviously we walked along the path past all the nicer cheaper places to stay and past the brilliant beach that we missed by turning left instead of right and yes we ended up back where we started when we got off the pier by the dirt track. I am sure someone is spiking our drinks with something because i dont think i could cope with so many kicks in teeth the way I have been. So after a good 4 mile walk in the heat and deciding that we will try and stay 20m down the road of the place we were showed first, we head back to our overpriced lizard infested room and get ready to eat.
That night I asked for a red curry, which I was told isnt hot, so there was no need to request it to not be so spicy, mild i think was how he put it. I think that night was the first time i had ever eaten a spicy pineapple, clearly Thai chefs dont go the spicy rating given by Lloyd Grossman! It was intriguing to say the least!
The next day after we moved into our new accomodation, which was samller than the caravan Father Ted shared on his summer holiday with Father Furlong and his youth group. We headed to beach to relax and go a slighter brighter shade of pink.
Unfortunately we had to leave Ko Tao earlier than we wanted to, although this does give us an excuse and reason to make plans for a trip back!
