Right this is a bit of a mixed journal entry with a bit from my travels in surf camp and a bit about my last week in the redcentre with gems before meeting up with jakey and steph and heading to fiji. Now im not the chief journal writer as jake is quite frankly a lot more funnier than me and better at it, and my comment that i provide the banter for him to write about was met with scorn. SO if its dull apologies.
So i left the others in sydney and joined the bus heading to surf/gay camp where i finally got there was greeted by some of the guys i had met on my tour. it was about midnight and there was a party in full swing and i was greeted with "oi c*** head get the beers in you twat" and i knew i had arrived. Most of the old faces were there including my partner in crime will a beauty of a welsh lad who i teamed up with to terrorise surf camp.
My sleeping quarers for my stint here were not exactlly plush. Basically i was in a boatshed with will and all the other workers. This boatshed was also home to some rather delightfull funnel web spiders, mice, bugs and in the mornings we would quite often be greeted by a rogue bull or horse popping in to see what was happening. I actually fell out of my bunk bed when the bull snorted in my direction and apparently it was quite a sight as naked dave tried shhh ing the bull out of the boatshed at 4 in the morning.
For my time at camp we did not really have the hardest of lives as we surfed all day and got smashed at night. We did however have to do some work , this involved getting up at half 6 every morning to clean the pool, clean up the place and get breakfast and lunches ready for the punters. Once we had cleared up the breakkie then we would spend all day at the beach catching a wave and then come back and get dinner and the bar ready for the evening. Once dinner was out the way we would then be encouraged to get drunk with the partners getting involved with the drinking games, dancing pool partys and mainly general carnage that went on. So that was basically my day everyday for the whole time i was there. As the weeks went on i started instructing and brilliantly got paid in beer. The place we were based is a place called seal rocks which is in the myall lakes national park in new south wales. It is home to some of the most stunning coastline in oz and the beaches we were surfing were stunnig. Mst of the time the beaches were deserted apart from a few other local surfers and the waves were awesome. Anyone going to oz has to go here as its beautifull.
A lot of the evenings descended into carnage especially when will brought out his uncles home made vodka which was 70% proof. This killed us and quite frequently the results would be myself, will and several instructors completely nude on the tables dancing away before leading the groups into the pool for killer pool parties.
Surf/gay camp was a brilliant part of my whole trip and all the boozing aside did some solid surfing which was awesome. Also made some brilliant mates will, tim, zach.porns, ducat, ecca i salute you cockheads and all the other idiots who worked there.
After Surf camp i met up with gems in Adelaide and we stayed ther for a couple of days as i met up with a member of the huge severn clan (they get bleeding everywhere) Michael and had a good yarn over a few beers in Adelaide where he lives.A fellow legend. After Adelaide me and gems left Adelaide and heade to the red centre on our tour. We basically did the same thing as jakey so i wont bore you too much but we had an awesome time. We stayed in cooper pedy which is a town where a lot of opal is mined. The place is so hot regularly over 50 degrees so most people live in big caves in the side of hills and underground where it is a lot cooler. We stayed underground for the night which was cool and went to an underground bar as well.
After staying in Alice Springs for a night we left for the red centre where we did a 4 hour hike round the kings canyon which was stunning. We also saw vartious sunrises and sunsets over uluru before we actually climbed it. Now technically jakey is right the aborigonies(i cant spell) do not like you climbing it and honestly we were not going to ,(ask gemma), but our guide said that it is a once in the lifetime opportunity and we would be gutted if we did not do it. So we did. Now this uluru is a bloody big b****** rock and is bloody steep. However dsw having recently come from surf camp where he had thought he had got a lot fitter, decided to attack the rock sprinting up like a rampant panther. 17 minutes later the big oaf was clinging on to the side of the rock panting and sweating his arse off as an 80 yr old chinaman he had passed breezed by .... b*****. After finnally getting to the top the view was sensational and it was a huge highlight for both of us. After descending we drove round the rock and went for a walk to look at some of the sacred caves and areas. One of which was a sacred womens area where the aborigeine men are not allowd to look at, if they did then they would be willingly beaten by the women with sharpened rocks till they bled and got "sorry cuts". Now by this time dsw had been doing his usual bit of pouring water over gems, pulling her top down and generally being a git. It was here that gemma decided to try and administer some sorry cuts of her own to dsw however these were directed at his plums...!!!
We also treked throught he olgas as jake mentioned which was quality. The other highlight of the week was camping under the stars in swags which is basically a mattress. Because there is no light pollution and it is sooo dark the stars are amazing. You can see all the constellations, planets, loads of shooting stars even the milky way. You could also see what is called the umbrella effect which is where you can see the curve of the earth as it is so clear pretty cool stuff. Sleeping under all this was amazing and i had the best nights sleep, unfortunately gemma did not as she was kept up with the sound of dsw snoring and dribbling after his exertions... more sorry cuts followed.
So after a brilliant last week with gems it was back to sydney to catch our flight to the tropical sunny paradise of fiji
enjoy
