To prevent bears, in particular Grizzlies, from entering the campgrounds and politely requesting a bite of your kitkat/head, you MUST place any food items in these steel boxes. This includes the following; toothpaste; toothbrush; suncream; cosmetics; even water bottles. I just put my panniers in there. Sadly I couldn't squeeze in with them. Think that this is over the top? Just the week before a Grizzly had entered this campground two nights in a row. There had been a group ignoring the food safety (bear safety) regulations. The bear was chased off by the rangers, closely followed by the cromagnons who left food out. The bear will probably return as they never forget a food source, nor where to get floss and some factor 30.
