Exploring South America - Audrey's travel blog
Another beautiful colonial town. A few of us took a bus out to Penha today to visit a waterfall, and a cachaça distillery - after all the caipirinhas we have had, I had to at least see how cachaça is made.
We went for a BBQ dinner (with unlimited caipirinhas - always a big risk!) in a lovely house in the historical center - the house is owned by the aunt of one of the GAP tour leaders, and is unoccupied - which made it an excellent venue for parties such as ours. We finished off the evening on the waterfront with a bonfire. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, although Louisa got more than she bargained for when she had to lend her shoulder to Angelica as she carried her home in the wee hours!
