Puerto Viejo was kind of what I was expecting - definitely got the reggae vibe, but it was a lot dirtier than I thought. Seems to be improving in parts but the main town has some ups and downs. A lot of scums but not as dangerous as I was told. Manzanillo Park (45 min bike ride) was a really cool hike with the beach right next to the trail, private little beaches, very romantic for a couple to escape to all day. Didn't make it to Punta Mona other side of the park), but maybe next time. Om Castle Hill yoga studio was a welcoming yoga studio up on the hlll with a nice view of the ocean. Met an instructor named Adriana, 34 with a kid and had been living there for 7 years, from San Jose. Gave me some pointers on India, really cute lady. I enjoyed the hostel I stayed in partly, it was nice being on the beach but I kept getting sand in my cutes and burn. And had to sleep on the top bunk for 4 nights in an 8 person small dorm room so that was a first, but it was worth the $13.65/night. The beaches were mostly high tide, not real big waves (only saw some in Playa Cocles) but wouldn't have been worth it to me. It was very peaceful just biking around town and taking a couple yoga classes, watching the sunsets and meeting some people. There was a German guy who was friendly at the beginning and this other German guy? who was interesting haha surfer, short and smelled like BO. The last night I met this German girl who was 38 and really sweet, travling on holiday. In all, it was a perfect amount of time in Puerto Viejo.
