Taking the bus to Santa Marta with Euan was great becuase we got to split the Uber and sit next to eachother on a smaller bus that actually didnt' have great Wifi. But we shared IG captions and arrived in Santa Marta before dark. Arriving there was surprising as it is a small coastal city with a lot of people. The hostel was big but not as clean or modern as it looked in the pictures. Sam and Linus were actually already in Santa Marta but they had booked another hostel and gave us a hard time to not go to theres (but Euan didnt' realize theirs had a pool too). Anyways, I had booked a 4 bedroom dorm and it was a bit annoying because my backpacks barely fit in the storage bin and my lock was too big so both Euan and I had to go get smaller locks. We then met up with Sam and Linus and they brought a long this German guy (about 23?) with pretty eyes (Paul). It took us forever to decide on what to get for dinner but I ended up just saying I wanted this one place and the German and I sat and ate there while the other guys went somewhere else. It was nice talking to a new person and getting to know Paul a bit more. We then went to get a beer somewhere else but OMG so many locals begging for money and constanting trying to get you to go into their stores. I felt this a bit in Cartagena but Santa Marta it was to the extreme. And there were street performers, breakdancers, and dirty Argentinians (who sucked). Called it a night I was exhausted but thankfully had some weed that I bought from Luis (water boy from Cartagena). Went to bed and got up to go to Tayrona the next day. It was so unplanned and very last minute, Euan was freaking out but I knew it would work out. We packed a day/night bag in case we wanted to sleep there and met up with Sam and Linus at the market to catch the bus. The market was so cool with tons of street food and people out and about. Got to Tayrona and had to pay $63,000 to get in and $30,000 for a tent. The hike was okay, it was mostly a path with wooden platforms and Sam and Linus actually road a horse to the campsite. The first view point was really nice with rocks and picturesque scenery and then walking to the campsite it was a different type of jungle than Costa Rica or Panama. The trees and plans were different looking but it was nice being along the coast. We got to the campsite and thankfully my tent had a mattress. Walked to the beaches and they were stunning! Tons of small horses riding by and just a different place I didn't even know what I was in for. It was a magical surprise and I loved every second of it. We had brought boxed wine so I drank that and watched the sunset while Sam was trying to find the nude beach. Euan smoked out of a bowl for the first time and then we went to get dinner at this place while they tried to teach me this card game that I just couldn't understand. so I stood in line since there was a long line to get food. We got food and then went back and drank more of Sam's rum and smoke a bit and played cards and went to bed. Woke up and went to the beach again and I was pretty ready to leave since I had to leave for Palomino that afternoon. We finally left and got back around 4pm and realized the last bus to Palomino left at 6pm and Euan decided to come with so we quickly ate and had to leave right away (without saying by to Sam or Linus unfortuantely).
Euan and I got to Palomino around 7pm and couldn't get a taxi right away and there were motorcycle drivers asking us if we needed a ride. I was hesitant at first because I didn't think they could fit all my s*** on their motocycle but it ended up working out and we both took one to Dreamers hostel which was on the end at the beach, driving past small restaurnts/hostels along the way, we were definitely out of a city and into a small beach town atlast! I had booked a private room that night since I needed it after being in a tent and camping and it was just the best decision becuase I got a good night sleep after getting dinner and a beer with Euan. Unfotunately the room wasn't available so I went to the dorms the next day, after doing a nice yoga practice. We had to get more cash out for tubbing and I had owed Euan but there was no ATM at the town so he ended up going to get cash out for the both of us. It was already 2pm and I decided to stay another day so we changed our plans to go tubbing the next day. We went to the beach and watched the sunset, got passionfruit mojitos and took pics and went back to shower and find some place to eat. We ended up getting pizza at this place near by and it was good. The next day we relaxed in the morning and then went tubbing in the afternoon. It was just the two of us and we took our tubes with us on these motocycles, got guided by this local that was probably 25 and floated down the river, after hiking about 30 minutes to get there with our tubes. We had 6 beers each and it was a nice relaxing tube ride (not a crazy drunk river tubbing that we were expecting but that was perfectly fine). We went to the same place to get more mojitos excpet this time we got gin and tonics and then went back to eat at the hostel and there was kareoke so we watched that all night and went to bed. Left in the morning pretty early since I had to catch my flight in Santa Marta to go to Medellin. Said goodbye to Euan after the bus ride and went to the airport which was actually pretty nice on the water.
