Waking with the birds at 5h50, we were like old people, showered and out on our bikes in the cool morning air by 6h50!
Following the route around the stunning lake bathed in the early morning light, we cycled around for an hour or so, taking in the gorgeous scenery and singing our good mornings to the happy smiley Swiss. At 8h00 we parked up our bikes and bought our tickets for the Mount Riga cog railway that would take us up to the summit of 1,800m. (See Colin's video recorded especially for David and Lowri who had trouble breathing at Mount Etna - cheeky chappy!). After sipping our morning coffee with the cow bells in the background and the view of the snow on the surrounding mountain peaks, we headed back down to the village to collect Mabel and head off to Genova for our overnight ferry crossing to Corsica.
We drove through tunnel after tunnel - the longest being 17km (20 minutes!). Wr thought it would never end!
On the drive down I was happy to have Colin's knowledge of the local languages and accents to help me identify the countries; switching his accent with ease from French to Swiss German and then on to Italian as he commented on anyone else's driving that was not as good as his!
After an hour or so of the Italian motorways, we concluded that to gain a driving licence in Italy, you must be told explicitly not to use the indicators as they distract you...we were cut up left, right and centre by these craaaazy eyetalians as they weaved fearlessly in and out of the traffic, with us second guessing which motorway exit they would slide over to take at the last minute.
After Milan, we took a very windy curly wurly road down to Genova where the strength of Jules' bladder was tested to the max as the seat belt tugged across her bladder!
Happy to have arrived at the port in plenty of time, we were even happier to see that we were not part of a group arguing with other Italians where one car had smashed into the side door of a motorhome as it looked as though one was (unsuccessfully) pushing into the queue.
Despite admitting to being a little nervous about manoeuvring Mabel onto the ferry, Colin did a fabulous job of backing her in - receiving a wink and a nod from the ferry crew - such the expert already.
Our overnight cabin was a little too cosy to say the least, so after setting sail at 22h00 on the dot, we had a little beer out on the deck until we were both pooped enough to sleep as soon as our heads hit the pillows!
