Stayed in a place called Samon's village for 3 nights, the village aims to re-create a typical Cambodian village for travellers. On the first night they had a Khmer party to honour some long term guests. Loads of traditional food, local singers / musicians and some home-brew whiskey shots. The Cambodians love a drink...constant 'Chung moi' followed by downing the beer. The village was on the river bed. Watching all the night fisherman was pretty cool.
Hired some motorbikes and drove up Bokor Mountain. Sarah had 2 near death experiences, but other than that they were ace. Some great views on the way up looking onto the Gulf of Thailand. Got to the top and it was freezing and pissing it down. The hotel and casino at the top was also a bit random.
Kampot is far more laid back and slow -paced compared to Phnom Penh, the people were friendly and all the children came and said hello. Done a bit of kayaking in the river and cycled to the rapids. People here seem to either be rich and live mansions, or very poor and living in rotting wooden shacks!
Stayed in Kep for a few nights. Pretty rural accommodation again, it's always good to share a shower with lizards and crickets. Went to Koh Tonsay Island for a day and spent the day on the beach and in a hammock. Got burnt. Quite a few thunderstorms this week!
Survived 2 weeks in Cambodia without seeing a spider....happy days! Now onto Vietnam.
