Back on the Zambian side, we had a free day to do some activities before we joined our new group. We braved the crocodile-infested Zambezi in a white water raft armed with a helmet, life jacket and paddle. James was out of the boat before we hit the first rapid.
As it was high water season, the rapids were not as big as they would be when the water is low and churning against all the rocks. However it was running very fast and when we capsized it was a struggle to get back into the boat. We had 3 basic commands 'paddle forward', 'paddle back' & 'get down hold on'.
To continue the adrenalin rush we did an afternoon tandem gorge swing. We positioned ourselves backwards on the edge with our heels hanging over. There was no option to go forwards in case one person chickened out last minute and was dragged over the edge. We bent over in a crouched position, the instructor let go of our wire and we fell 53m backwards into the gorge before the rope caught us. The worst part was the long walk back up the gorge afterwards!
We finished the day with a sunset cruise on the Zambezi. It was a great way to meet our new group because nothing meshs 20 strangers like 2 hours of unlimited drinks!
