April's Travels
For the last three nights of our trip in Mexico we stayed in Playa del Carmen which is on the Carribean coast. The first time i've seen the Carribean sea. When we got to Playa the weather was pretty ropey, blustery with sand storms so i was ever so slightly convinced we may have brought a hurricane with us.
We got slightly fleeced for the first time here, when i say slightly it's because it was only for a couple of pounds so that's not too bad!! It was a taxi driver who drove us to a hostel we asked to go to from the bus terminal, he literally pulled away in the taxi and then stopped two metres along the road where the hostel was, grabbed our bags out of the boot and asked for the money!! Cheeky little mexican, which i told him!!
The hostel we looked at was like school camp and full so we had a look round and found a little hotel/guesthouse. I managed to bargain with the lady for a room with kitchenette and balcony terrace wahoo!!
The first night here we looked around the very commercial Playa. It's cool though because for a couple of days everyone understands english and there are loads of shops and people about. We looked around and got ourselves some cake and tea, how sophisticated!!
The second day we did our errands, we did laundry, food shopping, cooking and all sorts. Only because the weather was a bit rough but still we were very busy!! We shopped at Walmart where they had clothes by Asda's george!! They also had free cake at the bakery so i had about 5 slices of chocolate cake. I've been attacked by the sweet stick and have to eat cake all the time!!
We bought chicken, veg etc.. and come beers and that night had chicken in mushroom sauce with potato salad, tomato and avocado, not bad for our first meal!!
On the last day we pretty much mooched around all day again. Went on the internet and things and then went out for a few beers in the evening at a bar with loads of wooden swings. It was really cool, pictures are on here!! Met our first couple of Americans who actually like the Brits, they loved us so much they bought us a couple of beers so we would stay and talk to them!!!
Oh and lastly i bought a mexican hat, i should be trying to fit in with the locals and then i went and bought a stupid hat. I love it though, you'll probably see loads of me in it in the next lot of photos.
The next day (Saturday) we were off to Belize, had a really funny day getting there, will tell you all about it in the next installment!!
