India to Asia by Kay & Anthony
Day 88 -
We got picked up from our hotel at about 7am and the journey to the boat taking us over to Four Thousand Islands took about 3 hours.
Once we arrived at the boat, it took another 30 minutes to get to Don Khong Island.
The scenery just keeps amazing us, we just can't believe that it can be so different from one place to another. Here the scenery over the river to the island was made up of the huge river, obviously, and lots and lots of toughs of grass sticking out all over it making up little islands therefore the reason why this area is called Four Thousand Islands. I bet from a bird's eye view it looks amazing.
We found some accommodation straight away and as we hadn't yet eaten, got a bite to eat at the hotel's restaurant.
After lunch we decided to hire a motorbike to explore the island. Anth set off riding it whilst I was on the back. We didn't get too gar though as we kept stalling it and nearly flew off the road!
We decided it better to practise in one area first so I waited whilst Anth sett off on a quiet, straight road getting the feel for the gears and steering! After me nearly wetting myself with laughing for the first few minutes, Anth picked it up in no time. Then it was time and it took me a little longer to grasp and I didn't like it anyway so just decided that Anth will drive and I would be passenger.
We drove right to the end of the island which took about 40 minutes. The further north you go, the more deserted the place becomes with just fields in front of you with a few wooden houses scattered around where the farmers live.
Once we got to the most northern point we stopped for about half an hour to chill out by the river and try and take in the beautiful scenery.
I had a little practice on the bike then and drove us back which took a lot longer!
At night we had a candlelit dinner by the river.
Day 90 -
We had a chill out day today, just went for a walk for about 2 hours in another direction than we had been on the bike.
Anth and my roles seemed to have reversed whilst traveling. I have become so clumsy and heavy footed, forever falling over just when I'm walking on flat land ha! Every stone that was in our path I managed to trip on, I blame the flip flops. This by the way continues all through our trip, I am now an accident prone disaster! Anthony has become the sensible, orderly, accident preventer!!
At night we bought a bottle of Laos Vodka and drank nearly the lot! For some reason it gave us the giggles, I reckon the Locals add extras to the vodka without us knowing! We started to take the remainder of my dreadlocks out and found this highly amusing for some reason!
