So I thought, seeing as I have a day to kill here in Buenos Aires and it is endlessly raining I might just tell you a little about my 24 hour taster of BA. I arrived early in the morning at the airport and got some great bus company that takes u in a bus and a car all the way to your destination! I shared the car/cab w two older ladies and a man who were all from Argentina and were chuckling to the radio together. I spoke to one of the ladies next to me, Maria, who lived a few blocks from my hostel and had an Australian living with her. She gave me her cars before she left, "just in case". I was flattered by her kindness and sat in mild puzzlement (is that a word?) for a while. When I couldn't check into my hotel I was left to wonder the streets of Palermo in the rain. It is the best shopping area I have ever seen. I remember walking around here when we came as a family in 2008 and felt a tad nostalgic and homesick at the same time. They are just so cool here, it's a mix between sydney surrey hills/paddington and Barcelona. I found a cool bookshop/cafe/bar around the corner from my hotel. Which would have live music that night. I returned for dinner and a glass of wine. The owner Frank talked to me (the waitresses didn't speak English) and made sure I was happy. I spent a good hour browsing the art books and soon became besties with the book keeper, Fernando. He didn't speak much English and pushed me to speak Spanish which was exactly what I needed. (he also had a tattoo on his hand in the same spot as mine so we bonded over that)
Jokes mum! I haven't got a real tattoo!
