So after leaving Bristol at 2pm yesterday, we finally arrived safely in Lima almost 24 hours later although being rather disgruntled with Iberia, leaving less than an hour to make our transfer in Madrid. Adding to this, the fact that their ridiculous piano covers/lift music was ´killing us softly´, being charged for food and inadequate seating. However, much to our surprise, all of our luggage had arrived safely in Lima, the only redeeming factor of their service.
With our pick up service not arriving at the airport, we cunningly avoided several cons from dodgy taxi companies and started on our way to the hostel. Quite how we made it with the erratic Peruvian driving is a miracle. Having no respect for lanes, road signs and the use of indicators, we narrowly avoided several scrapes and bumps.
After a long awaited shower (cold) we headed out to explore the town, the highlight being the local supermarket so we´re not too upset to be leaving tomorrow morning. However, this time tomorrow evening, we shall be sipping piscos, overlooking a lagoon and surrounded by 500 metre high sand dunes which we will be sandboarding down on wednesday.
