Nelson
We had to leave Wellington bright and early on the Tuesday morning. We were leaving the north island and were travelling on the ferry to the south island. The ferry was about 3 and a half hours long. I took a lot of travel sick tablets as the last few times we have been on boats I have felt sick. The pills worked and I was fine. The scenery was amazing travelling through the Cook Strait. We arrived in the south island and the sun was out! Woo! We collected our bags from the ferry terminal and made our way to the bus. On the way to Nelson we went to a vineyard and had some lunch, then made our way to the hostel.
We stayed in Nelson two nights. We had to get up bright and early in the morning as we were heading to Abel Tasman National Park for the day. Me, Naomi, Rob and James thought we were kayaking for a few hours and then walking for a few hours too. When we arrived we were kayaking all day! I thought there was no way I could kayak all day - but somehow I managed it! Anita booked on the walking trip and went with a girl called Shelley who we met. We popped on our life jackets and went on a water taxi for half an hour to the kayaks. We then kitted ourselves up in our skirts and kayaks with our bits. It was me and Rob in a double kayak and the Naomi and James. We headed off and we saw some seals on an island, it was so nice to sit and watch them play around. We had lunch on a beach area and had a paddle in the sea for a bit. We then got back in the kayaks and we swapped over , I went with Naomi and I was in the back steering - I don't know why we thought that was a good idea at the time as I crashed a lot into the other people. We had a sail race too with some other kayaks too - we made a sail out of the oars and our lunch blanket and raced the others back. We kayaked 17kms!Woo! I made it all the way! We had such a fun day and the scenery was fantastic. We then had a few drinkies in the bar with some more bus people - not so good though as we had an early start to get to Westport.
