Tupiza
We spent 7 days in Tupiza. We stayed in a nice hotel with a pool and a lot of days were spent mooching around the town and lazing by the pool. We did a triathlon with Tupiza Tours, which involved seeing sights by 4x4, horse riding and mountain biking. We were picked up at 9.30am and after collecting 4 young Swiss lads, we went straight out to see sights by jeep. After lunch we went to the stables for horse riding. That was great and had 3 hours on the horses, we felt like we were riding through the wild west with all the canyons deep red in colour. After riding the company picked us up with 6 bikes strapped to the roof. We all donned our helmets and gloves, while freaking out at the road we would have to cycle down. The mini van kept climbing and the bends along the canyon with a sheer drop down the other side. If I had known the road we would have to cycle down for 17km I may have had second thoughts. Certainly no way would you be allowed to do this in the UK for health and safety reasons, there was nothing stopping you from taking the corner too quickly and skidding off the side of the mountain. The road was just gravel and loose so not easy to control the bike and your brakes. But what the hell, we were at the top at 4000meters and we had to get down to Tupiza somehow. So off we went. OMG the speed you go down the canyon is immense and you pray that your brakes do not falter. I slowed down going around the bends, there was no way in hell that I wanted to skid off the side of the mountain or skid and fall off my bike on the hard gravel road. It was hard work controlling your bike and it was so bumpy that your arms are taking all the hits, but hey it was a lot of fun and once you were down and riding through the town you felt relived at the same time. Yeah no broken bones!
The next day was chilling by the pool and we went to sort out our bus, unfortunately we wanted to leave on the Sunday, but the bus was full, so we said we would go on the Monday at 10am.
Next stop Potosi, the highest city on earth at 4,070 meters above sea level.
