I can't believe a week from now i'm gunna be at the airport waiting to come back to the UK, arrghhh!! Nah, lookin forward to seeing everyone really!
So for the past few weeks ive been in and around Perth, officially the most isolated city in the world! And oh it is so so quiet compared to Melbourne! The CBD is like 2 streets and the city literally shuts down at 5!? There are some cool things to do tho, managed to keep myself occupied strolling through the beautiful Kings Park peering down at the City, visiting the historic bell tower, Perth Mint where they make all the money, wine tours in the swan valley, shopping, visiting harbours, the aquarium, the cute and trendy suburbs of Freemantle and Subiaco or 'Freo and Subi', and did i mention the wine..
Managed to do a couple of toury type things to explore a bit further. First was a 4 day trip up to the gorgeous Monkey Mia where 3 dolphin families come up to the beach every day for a fish feeding sesh, so cute! Had loadsa fun on the way up there, visiting the Pinnicles (random tall rock formations in the mid of a dessert, eerie!), Wildlife parks where we got to feed and play with the local roos, snakes, goats and llamas - strange mix i know! Unfotunately we got caught in a pretty big storm so our time at Kalbarri NP was restricted, went to some cool lookouts tho and got awesome views of the gorges. Also visited the stromatolites - the oldest living things on the planet, i couldnt quite make out what they were, just looked like rocks under the crystal clear sea but were actually breathing as u could see oxygen bubbles comin up! Shell beach was just gorgeous, a whole beach filled with nothing but tiny and i mean TINY shells, loved it and was such gorgeous weather! Also visited an Ocean Park where we got up close with sharks and stingers and other marine animals, now that was cool! Part of the trip also included visiting the Hutt River Province - an independant country to Australia - we all had to get our passports stamped and everything!! Its just this random place set up by this very clever altho very strange, guy who found a loophole in the government allowing him to live free of taxes if he set up his own country!! The loophole was quickly closed but they cant do anything about HRH Prince Leonard - hes got his own church, currency, stamps, the lots - fair play! We tried to do sandboarding too as we got back to Perth but the sand was a bit damp so we err kinda just got stuck ha ha! Altogether the trip was awesome with some really cool people, a great driver, a hot tub experience i will never forget and a badly cut foot, those of u that were there know the story ...!!
So that was north of Perth but I also ventured down to the very south west of oz too and so glad I did! Again, some random visits like the longest jetty in the southern hemisphere, some incredible caves, more wine tasting (!), a climb up the tallest tree lookout in the world (I didnt do this, a 75m high lookout climbing just steel rods stuck into the side of the tree, no barrier or safety nets or anything - 1 guy did it, 1 guy!) Visited the valley of the giants filled with humungous karri trees that u could actually walk under the roots of they were that big! Stopped at Williams bay to see some random rock formations like 'Elephants Rock' - have to use ur imaginations here, reckon these aussies just make them up! Also saw seas rougher than I have ever seen with incredible swells and awesome waves crashing against the rocks! Esperance, the jewel of the south, really is. White sand beaches, golden deserts, huge red rock formations, mountains, crystal clear blue seas, its got it all and was amazin! Did i mention the gorgeous white sand beaches and the sunshine and blue skies, like a private lil paradise! Most of us managed to climb Frenchmans Peak, a mountain with no path, just pure rock climbing and guess work as to where to put ur foot next, climbed so many mountains since ive been in oz, well worth it for the views tho! On our way back to Perth stopped in at Wave Rock, a pretty cool natural rock formation just like, well, a big wave really! I liked it anyway! Less impressive was the 'Hippos Yawn' which was just a lil cave really, aussies and their imaginations again... then another random stop to pay our respects at the Dog Cemetery, i kid u not, a whole cemetery just for peoples dogs, bizarre.
Back in Perth the weather has actually been really nice, 'officially the most isolated and sunniest capital city in the world' ive been told.
Have to say tho, lookin forward to leavin tomoro, my time in perth is done, and heading back to melbourne, where its very wet and very cold i hear!
Then only a few days left before i say goodbye to oz and return back to the uk, tissues at the ready, lol!
