This is a tradition of Luang Prabang. Every morning at 5.30, the monks walk along the town centre to collect food donations from the locals. In accordance with the Buddhist religion, it is a way for the monks to learn humility and for the locals to "collect merits" (i.e make good actions that will ensure them a better situation in their next life)
