We made our way from The Lion's Den quite early and thought we'd stay at a free camp about 5 hours away. After about 3 hours we had already arrived a the free camp, so we decided to continue! At about 3pm we arrived at Mount Surprise and what a surprise it was!! We met Rusself, the owner, as he walked past us with his pet snake Clancy. Half an hour away from Cooktown is a cool place called The Lion's Den. It's a great pub with heaps of character. We chose a non-powered site and set up for one night. After a little rest we went for a swim in the fresh water river next to the camp. We were a litle hesitant, even though everyone said there were no crocs in there. After a little while we relaxed and followed Charli in. It was so lovely and cool, which was nice compared to the heat of the sun!...

We had a fabulous time in Cooktown! We pulled into the caravan park and were welcomed by a man in only his shorts who pointed us to the site. It was an awesome site with big shade sails over the top of them. That meant we didn't need to put the awning up! It was also very cool under it and the concrete didn't get hot either. Cairns was only a short trip from Kurrimine Beach. As we pulled into our caravan park we were pleasantly surprised! They had given us a lovely site under some trees...although it was a bit tricky getting onto the site as it was so small! Some of the things that we did in Cairns were the markets. The first night we headed into Cairns and went to the night markets there. It was a little disapointing as it was mostly made up of souvenir shops and cheap massage ...

We had a long drive to Kurrimine Beach and when we got there we were a bit let down. The town was teeny tiny and when we said that we were going down to 'the shops,' the lady at the caravan park corrected us by stating 'by shops you mean shop...which is closed today'. Damn!
